Choir Archivist Roy Pugh is gradually assembling a new data base giving full details of each recording made by the Orpheus.

Our recordings have always been in great demand on radio programmes. Recently, they have become very popular on Classic FM and have even been heard on television on "Liverpool 1" , "Midsomer Murders" (HTV)
and a film "A Mind To Kill: Rest Not Secure" (C5)

Succesful ventures into the "pop" world have included recordings with chart-topping T'Pau and The Alarm. The involvement with the latter band led to television appearances on "Top of the Pops" and "Wogan" . In 2008 the Choir recorded the Cardiff Castle Suite, composed by David Mitcham. Cardiff Castle

In 2009 Synth-Pop legend Howard Jones wrote music for the Orpheus which was recorded on his 'Ordinary Heroes' Album. See our special feature.

Our recordings made since 1979, the year Alwyn Humphreys was appointed our Musical Director, contain over two hundred of his arrangements. They provide an abundance of proof of his widely recognised flair for arranging music for male choirs.

Several of the Orpheus recordings have been reviewed in The Gramophone.

1950's Myfanwy ~ Delyn Aur 78 Myfanwy was a very popular choice of listeners to the BBC's 'Family Favourites' programme which was broadcast at lunch time each Sunday in the early fifties. They either played it sung by the Treorchy Male Choir or ourselves. Our version became easily identifiable to listeners because at one stage a dog can be heard barking in the background.
