Rest in Peace Gareth

You may have read our brief social media announcement a few days ago that on the afternoon of Saturday 17th June whilst preparing at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea for our Annual Gala Concert, one of our choristers, top tenor Gareth Jefferies suddenly collapsed. Sadly despite the best efforts of the Choir's first aiders, the Brangwyn Hall first aid team and the Welsh Ambulance Service. Gareth passed away.

A fuller tribute has now been posted on our social media pages and it is reproduced here in memory of someone who was more than just a chorister of the Morriston Orpheus.

For 12 years consecutively he held one of the hardest jobs of any choir, holding the position of Stage Marshall. He dedicated many hours of his time ensuring that every stage plan of any concert venue we performed at was accommodating for us as a Choir. He discussed with countless venues before each and every concert to ensure we had the ease of settling into our positions on the concert stage and the concert would run as smooth as possible. He carried out this role to absolute perfection.

Gareth was fiercely proud to be a Morriston Orpheus Chorister and was always one of the first to welcome any new chorister into the ranks. On Saturday, Gareth was to receive his 20 year award for outstanding service to The Orpheus, and when the time is right, we will continue to honour this with all of Gareth’s family.

Since our previous announcement we have been inundated with so many comments and so many stories about other people’s memories of Gareth, all of which have been a huge source of help and comfort to both Gareth’s Family and his wider Orpheus Family. It just goes to show the absolute measure of such a great man.

Gareth, on behalf of us all, we say thank you for everything you did for us. We thank you for your dedication, but most of all we thank you for being you! A friend to all! Always smiling, always laughing, and always encouraging.

Cysga Dawel Gareth     May you Rest in Peace

Gareth - always with a smile ..................  or with a song
