Joint-Accompanist ~ Alice Reed  MA (Cantab), BDS (Wales) , DipABRSM

Alice originally joined the Orpheus' Musical Team in June 2009, taking up the position vacated when Mike Williams moved to London. Initially the Choir's Joint-accompanist with Jo Scullin, Alice took on all the accompanist duties from January 2013 when Jo moved away from the area. On taking up her full time role as a Dentist Alice had to reduce her time with the Choir and continued as Joint-accompanist, with Llyr Simon, from September 2014 until her work took her away from South Wales in 2015. Alice returned to South Wales in 2019 and following Llyr's decision to step down from his role, Alice was delighted to return to the Orpheus' musical team in January 2020

Born in Cardiff, Alice was educated at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf.  During her time there, she competed several times at the National Eisteddfod, winning piano and harp solo competitions on a number of occasions. Alice played an active role in the school’s musical life as a member of its choir and orchestra.  She took part in musical productions and accompanied various groups and soloists. In 2005, she won the school’s Blue Riband prize.

In 2005, Alice gained a place at Cambridge University where she read Music. She became a member of the University orchestra and formed a flute and harp duet with a friend. She served as President of her college’s Music Society, a role which she greatly enjoyed. She also joined the University’s Welsh Society, Cymdeithas y Mabinogi, which gave her the opportunity to meet other Welsh students at Cambridge. In 2006, Alice won the New Hall College annual music scholarship prize which she used to fund piano and harp lessons at the Royal Academy of Music in London where she studied under Graeme Humphrey and Skaila Kanga.

After  graduating with honours in 2008, Alice worked as a  researcher on the popular S4C production, Dechrau Canu,  Dechrau Canmol. In 2009, Alice decided to pursue a career in dentistry, graduating from Cardiff University in 2014. Following four happy years working and living in North Wales, Alice has now returned to Cardiff and is a dentist in South East Wales.

She is delighted to return to the Morriston Orpheus Choir as joint-accompanist.
