Once again the annual MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year Competition brought together an exceptional group of young classical singers vying for the coveted title.
The unanimous decision of the distinguished panel of Adjudicators saw the MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year 2026 award go to 25 year old Welsh baritone, JOHN LIDDINGTON.
John, originally from Llantrisant, is a student at the David Seligman Opera School at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama – Coleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru, where he has performed in a range of roles including Jupiter in Orpheus in the Underworld and Masetto in Don Giovanni.
On hearing of his success John, the Competition runner up in 2025, said he felt incredibly lucky and proud to have been awarded the first place this year. He added:
‘ The chance MOCSA provides to perform in front of a world-class, generous panel of judges is a fantastic opportunity and being chosen as the winner by such renowned singers and musicians from a pool of hugely talented fellow competitors is a great honour. The support competitions like MOCSA provide for young singers in terms of funding, experience and exposure are all invaluable, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity.’
As well as the MOCSA title and trophy, John receives the Ivor E Sims Memorial Prize of £1500 donated by the Morriston Orpheus Choir.
