Choir in Ty Olwen Fundraiser

On Wednesday 21 February representatives of the Choir were delighted to present a cheque for £350 to the Ty Olwen Trust in support of the Morriston based hospice.

This sum was raised from ticket sales of an informal concert at The Hyst Bar on High Street, Swansea on 13 December 2017.  The Choir had sung carols at Ty Olwen earlier in the evening, an annual tradition going back many years, before setting-off for the fundraiser at The Hyst.

Mince pies and other baked delights helped to attract a festive crowd to the Hyst to hear Christmas songs and other numbers from the Choir’s repertoire.  Meanwhile, thousands of people watched on Facebook in all corners of the globe and offered their comments and requests.

Mal Pope of The Hyst was happy to hand over his establishment to such a good cause and to provide the technology for the live streaming.

David Taylor, Chairman of Morriston Orpheus Choir said: “the Choir has a long association with Ty Olwen and this year wanted to do a little more than the regular Christmas carol performance at the hospice.  We are so happy that we were able to raise some money to support the wonderful work of the staff and volunteers there”.
