Finalists selected for MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year 2022

After a series of preliminary heats last month the three finalists who will compete for the title of MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year 2022 have been selected.

MOCSA 2021 Winner              Rhydian Jenkins

Entries were received from the UK’s leading music colleges and, once again, the high calibre of entry made the task of selecting just three finalists a difficult one. The decision has been made however and the three finalists for this year’s Competition are, in alphabetical order:

*****************

Matthew James Bawden a 29 year old Tenor from Swansea, studying at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Rhys Meilyr Jones a 23 year old Tenor from Llangefni, studying at The Royal Academy of Music.

Rachel Roper a 23 year old Mezzo Soprano from Hereford (of Welsh parentage), studying at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

****************

The Final of the Competition takes place at a concert in Swansea on Sunday 18 September. The concert will also include a full programme from the Morriston Orpheus Choir who donate the Ivor Sims Memorial Prize of £1500 to the Competition winner.
