Musical Director Vacancy with the Morriston Orpheus Choir

The following advertisement for a new Musical Director for the Choir has been issued today - Monday 19 July 2021:
A vacancy has arisen due to the retirement of our Musical Director and we are looking to appoint a replacement from September 2021. Applications are invited for the post of Musical Director with our Choir, which is one of the leading choirs in Wales. The Choir is a Male Voice Choir consisting of more than 90 choristers. It has a wide repertoire that retains traditional Welsh songs but also includes a mixture of styles to ensure that our audiences have variety. The choir has established an international reputation that has meant worldwide travel. Candidates should:
- possess a professional musical background with practical experience as a Musical Director
- have a working knowledge of traditional Welsh language songs
- conduct the Choir in its normally busy concert programme at a variety of venues some of which will involve overnight stays. 20 - 25 events a year have been the norm in recent years
- hold rehearsals twice a week, currently Wednesday and Sunday evenings
- be ready to introduce new music to the repertoire whilst maintaining the Choir’s cultural links with Wales
- possess good interpersonal communication skills and a forward looking attitude which will assist the Choir's future development
- utilises good communication and people skills to enable team working with accompanists, choristers, and the Choir committee.
The selection process:
- there will be a formal interview and a practical demonstration of conducting
- references will be required and referees may be approached
Payment consist of an annual honorarium, concert fees, and a concert dress allowance. Mileage allowance will also be available in some situations.
