CARDIFF CASTLE

This spectacular music was composed for the audio-visual presentation of the history of the Castle in the Visitor Centre at Cardiff Castle. The score  by David Mitcham features the dazzling brilliance of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the thrilling sound of the 100 voice Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir. The Soprano soloist is Iona Jones. The music was recorded in Cardiff and in Tabernacle Chapel Morriston in January 2008.

David’s music sets the medieval poetry of Taliesin and the 19th century lyric poetry of John Ceirog Hughes. The film is installed in a purpose built cinema at the castle and is projected on a massive 16m screen in the Visitor Centre.

Here is a short extract from the full score to which we have added images of Cardiff Castle for this website. The music shows that the Orpheus sings in a huge array of musical styles - even to singing Old Welsh from the Mabinogion!
