 THE SEARCH IS ON FOR........................
THE YOUNG WELSH SINGER OF THE YEAR 2005

As the Morriston Orpheus Choir celebrates its 70th Anniversary, their Supporters’ Association (MOCSA) is planning the 29th Young Welsh Singer of the Year Competition.

MOCSA was formed in 1974 as a group of supporters (then known as subscribers)of the Choir . They held their inaugural concert in 1975 but in 1997 decided to launch a Competition for Young Singers.

This has now run for 29 consecutive years with Winners and Finalists who have gone on to glittering careers, such as Bryn Terfel, Rebecca Evans, Jason Howard, Leah-Marian Jones, Anthony Stuart Lloyd and Katherine Jenkins (a Finalist in 2002).

The Competition is open to young singers with a Welsh family or residential connection, who are full time students of singing. Last year’s winner, Nicola Hughes of Tonna, Neath is a student at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.  She collected a prize of £1000 and the MOCSA Trophy. All finalists receive £300.

The heats of the Competition (to decide the 4 finalists) will take place on 24th July in the Guildhall (which houses the Brangwyn Hall), Swansea.  The Final will be at the Annual MOCSA Concert in the Brangwyn Hall, when the young singers will share the stage with the Morriston Orpheus Choir.  Entry forms and other details can be obtained from the MOCSA Secretary, John Betts (01792 419714) or at gensec@morristonorpheus.com.  Click on link for more details of  MOCSA and the Competition
